Sika Books

Cash records, linked receipts, and bookkeeping reports for day-to-day operations.

Made for small businesses and bookkeepers.

Overview

This platform family is under active development. The scope below describes its intended design; deployment readiness and supported capabilities must be confirmed for each engagement.

Small organisations often know that money moved without having a reliable record of why. Cash, bank accounts, and mobile-money wallets can become separate informal books. Receipts are stored elsewhere, and transfers, loans, and owner withdrawals can be mistaken for income or expenses.

Sika Books connects those details. Users record a transaction through a familiar money-in or money-out workflow, attach its evidence, and review the effect on their accounts and cash summaries. The software keeps the accounting structure behind the interface so users do not have to manually construct every ledger line.

What is included

Cash book and ledger

Record the movement correctly

The product distinguishes income, expenses, owner contributions, owner withdrawals, loans, repayments, asset purchases, and transfers. This matters because moving money between accounts should not inflate sales, and taking money out of the business should not automatically count as an operating expense.

Cash, bank, and mobile-money accounts have an explicit place in the records. Opening balances establish the starting position, and transactions feed account and period summaries. Posting rules convert the user-facing entry into balanced ledger lines and validate amounts in whole pesewas.

Corrections preserve the original record through reversal-based workflows. Rather than silently rewriting posted history, the product gives an organisation a way to explain what changed and retain the information needed for later review.

Receipts and documents

Keep evidence with the entry

Supporting documents are connected to the bookkeeping workflow. Users can capture receipts and associate them with the entries they support, keeping the financial record and its evidence together.

Document access is scoped to the organisation. Storage is abstracted from the product workflow, allowing local development and object-backed deployment to use the same underlying document concepts. This gives receipts a durable role in the system rather than treating them as incidental attachments to a message thread.

Reports

Understand cash and categories

Cash summaries and category reports turn entries into a reviewable view of the organisation's activity. Period selection and CSV export support handoff to an accountant or another reporting process.

An owner can record income and operating costs, review movements for a chosen period, and follow a total back to its entries and supporting evidence. Staff, accountants, finance administrators, and auditors have different access responsibilities, keeping participation aligned with the organisation's operating model.

Invoicing and tax-preparation workflows

Sika Books connects invoicing and tax-oriented records to its bookkeeping foundation. Income and expense information can retain the classifications needed for filing preparation, while versioned tax-pack calculations keep the calculation basis identifiable.

The purpose is to make financial information easier to assemble and review. Tax preparation remains a workflow involving the organisation's records and the appropriate professional or filing channel; the product's value lies in organising the underlying information and making its calculations traceable.

Built with

Baobab built a simple entry interface over an internal double-entry ledger, separating pure posting and summary rules from database and UI concerns. Integer money handling, explicit transaction categories, and immutable posted records make the financial model testable and explainable.

The platform uses Next.js and TypeScript, PostgreSQL through Drizzle, database row-level security, and Neon Auth. Cloudflare hosting, Hyperdrive, and R2 connect application delivery, relational data access, and receipt storage. Product-owned feature packages build on shared ledger, validation, and storage foundations, giving the bookkeeping rules a clear owner.
